Back To School | Testing Miss Fresh’s Meals for one Week : a Lazy Girl’s Guide

Miss Fresh Review Food Subscription Box Metro Caprese stuffed portobellos

True fact: I am not a great cook. There’s probably 3 recipes that I totally ace, but I usually am not super creative in the kitchen and prefer to lend a hand instead of cooking on my own (also, I could eat grilled cheese every day and survive). Nonetheless, I love to eat delicious food and I don’t hate cooking: I just don’t always have the patience, the ideas, or the time to prepare a nice meal.

So I decided to try a subscription box for food, to save myself the trouble of planning meals and going grocery shopping, and decided to subscribe to one week of Miss Fresh.

Miss Fresh delivers pre-portioned ingredients right to your door in order for you to prepare a delicious meal in 30 minutes or less. All you have to do is follow the recipe and eat! You can choose between a few options such the Vegetarian Box, the Custom Box, the Kilo Solution Box, and you can choose between 2, 4, or 6 portions per meal, and 2, 3, 4, or 5 meals per box. Obviously, the more meals and the more portions, the cheaper your cost per portion is.

So I ordered 3 meals for 2 and here are the recipes I picked:

  • Flaky sole fillets with pancetta and green peas: What an interesting, uncommon flavour combination! I was really curious about this meal and I was eager to taste it but I quickly noticed that this wasn’t a perfect meal. The pancetta was difficult to cut and the fish was not crispy at all. The instructions for cooking the rice were wrong and I had to freestyle to save my rice, which ended up mushy. Nevertheless, this meal did taste ok, but was not my favourite. This recipe: 2/5

  • Caprese stuffed portobellos with fresh bocconcini: This was HUGE. I got 4 large portobellos, wayyy too much for my mini appetite (this meal actually served 3)! Everything tasted really good, but was slightly bland: I wished there was more balsamic or pesto. I will definitely do this recipe again, with a few modifications. This recipe: 4,5/5

  • Coconut and ginger grilled chicken with rice and kale: This was a super easy, fool-proof recipe! It tasted delicious but there was a little something missing, maybe a touch of spicy or perhaps green peas? This time, the rice was perfect (the instructions were different). This recipe: 4/5

Despite the problems with my first recipe, I enjoyed my experience with Miss Fresh and might subscribe again in the future. Delivery was very fast and efficient, the cooking/prepping time is perfect, and the portions are generous. Also, everything is very fresh and the recipes are varied and interesting. It’s also so fun to have a paper copy of the recipe, so I can keep in it a binder and make it again another time!

The only downside to Miss Fresh is the inconsistency between meals: some meals are absolutely delicious and perfect, while others are just meh.

If you feel like trying Miss Fresh, check out their social media: they often offer discount codes!! Bon appétit!
